The Ambassador of Ukraine in Ankara, Vasyl Bodnar , said on CNN Türk that in the future, Ukraine plans to purchase fifth-generation Turkish KAAN fighter jets.

This was reported by the Ukrainian aviation publication "Kryla".

"Ukrainian specialists are working within the framework of the project to create an engine for the Turkish national combat aircraft KAAN. This is not a new story. We have several experienced engine development companies ," Bodnar emphasized

The ambassador suggested that the Turkish fighter jet could become a competitor to American planes, adding that Ukraine plans to purchase it.

"Ukraine will also purchase KAAN. And we will not limit ourselves to buying them, we will use them, and we know exactly where ," the ambassador said

We will remind that "Military" reported on the search for partners for the fighter development program due to financial difficulties.

Because of this, Turkey is looking for foreign partners that could reduce its own financial burden of the program. Considering the Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the defense sphere, the involvement of Ukrainian enterprises in the KAAN development program is quite probable

KAAN

The development of the aircraft is carried out in stages, so important weapons systems will be installed only on later prototypes. The fighter, which was previously known as the MMU (Milli Muharip Ucak), or TF-X, received the official name KAAN on May 1, 2023.

Turkish developers have set themselves the goal of creating a combat aircraft that will have low radar visibility and high maneuverability. It will have a modern optical-electronic location system and on-board radar. Production of three MMU Block prototypes is planned to be completed by the end of 2026 and one Block I prototype by 2029

The production process of the first prototype of the new Turkish fighter was shown in November 2022. It happened on the assembly line of the Turkish company Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI). The Directorate of Defense Industry of Turkey is implementing this project for the prospective replacement of F-16 fighter jets.

Ground  testing of the KAAN prototype began in March 2023. The first run of the plane on the runway took place on March 16. The plane started its own engines and moved for a certain time due to the thrust of the jet engines, so it successfully passed the first test of ground tests
